How we define business days, which holidays we use, and how the main calculator options behave.
A business day is a day that is all of the following:
Calendar days count every day in the range, including weekends and holidays.
When you choose “Business days,” results refer to that definition for the selected country (for example, “US business days” or “Canadian business days”).
Most calculators include a Holiday Selection control. Your choice is remembered in this browser and reused across tools.
Standard U.S. federal holidays. Fixed-date holidays that fall on a weekend are observed on the nearest weekday (Saturday → Friday, Sunday → Monday). Floating holidays (such as Memorial Day or Thanksgiving) are calculated by their usual weekday rules.
National Canadian holidays, including Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Boxing Day. Fixed dates use the same weekend observed-day rule as the U.S. set.
Fixed national holidays every year (Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Christmas), plus major variable festivals via a year-by-year table for 2024–2034 (for example Holi, Diwali, Id-ul-Fitr, Dussehra). Outside that range, fixed holidays (and Good Friday via the Easter calculation) still apply. Indian dates are used as listed; they are not shifted to a nearest weekday.
No national holidays are applied. Weekends are still excluded for business-day counts, and any custom holidays you added still apply.
Full lists and rules: National Holidays.
Some tools let you choose whether the first and last dates in a range are counted.
| Tool | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Days Between | Start and end included | Count every selected day from From through To |
| Days Until | From excluded, target included | “How many days until” usually does not count today |
| Next Business Days | Start excluded | Lists the next N business days after the start date |
| Invoice Age | Invoice date excluded | Age is 0 on the invoice day |
| Fiscal Year Remaining | From date excluded | Counts the day after From through fiscal year end |
Add Days and Days Before always move relative to the input date and do not count that date itself.
The four summary cards on the home page use your current Holiday Selection:
That is slightly different from Fiscal Year Remaining, which always starts the day after the From date. Overview answers “how many workdays do I still have in this period, including today?” Fiscal answers “how many remain after this From date?”
